INTRODUCTION 
With increased traffic
particularly on the east side of the City would it make sense to consider some
kind of link between the motorway junctions and the City centre:
- The most versatile means of
shuttle transport at present is the monorail system. As state of the
art it offers:-
- Maximum economy of Space
- The rail on which the
system runs is extremely unobtrusive.
- The system can negotiate
bends unacceptable to other vehicular systems.
- Gradients are no problem,
allowing it to span obstacles such as roads, rivers, railway lines etc.
- Each carriage has its own
motivation system allowing the easy addition of carrying capacity.
- Destination/reception/and
on-off platforms are simple constructions and take up little space.
- The well planned City of MK with its wide roads and
deep verges would lend itself to such a system.
- Relatively fewer earthworks
are required compared to other existing available track foundations.
- With all the leisure
activities in the City, Theatre, real Snow-ski, Gallery, Cable-Tow water
skiing, and other water sports the Monorail would sit neatly, as yet
another customer pulling attraction for our City as well as a
contributor to easing traffic congestion and parking.
- The Bedford & Milton Keynes
Waterway trust have made their first choice decision on the Canal route.
This passes along the southern edge of Willen Lake, which would coincide with
our Monorail proposed route. If all this comes to pass then the Canal
users would have the benefit of an interesting & easy trip into the
City centre.
